Founded in 1979 by Carl Roth, who gained valuable experience at Price Waterhouse Cooper, the firm grew thanks to the partnership with Sherill Spellman. She joined the firm in 1986 and became a partner in 1993.

Biography

Linda Dunne joined Roth & Spellman in 2008, bringing extensive experience in tax, accounting, and assurance services. She began her career at Price Waterhouse, a former “Big Eight” accounting firm, where she spent 16 years specializing in accounting and assurance services before earning her Master’s degree in taxation.

Linda is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in New Jersey and New York. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the NJ Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the NY Society of Certified Public Accountants. She also teaches auditing as an adjunct professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Linda lives in Bergen County, where she is active in her community. She serves on her church’s finance council and has previously been treasurer for several school boards.

She earned her B.S. in Accounting, summa cum laude, from Bucknell University and her M.S. in Taxation from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Biography

Founding partner Carl Roth brings extensive knowledge and experience to his clients, offering expert tax planning and advisory services across a range of tax matters.

Carl began his career at Price Waterhouse, a former Big 8 accounting firm, before starting his firm in 1979, which became Roth & Spellman in 1993.

With over forty years of experience in public and private accounting, Carl serves individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts, and private foundations. His expertise includes tax compliance, tax planning, retirement and education planning, estate and trust management, and business succession, across various industries.

Carl’s commitment to excellence and problem-solving earned him strong, lasting relationships with his clients. They value his clear, logical advice on tax implications and financial decisions, helping them achieve their financial goals.

His deep knowledge of IRS practices allows him to navigate complex tax matters, securing the best outcomes for his clients. Carl has successfully represented clients in audits at both federal and state levels, resolving conflicts and reducing financial burdens.

Carl is licensed in New Jersey, New York, and Florida. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJSCPA), New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA), and Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA). He holds the Accredited Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) designation from the AICPA, demonstrating expertise in estate, tax, retirement, risk management, and investment planning.

Carl earned his B.S. in Accounting and M.S. in Taxation from Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he received the Lance Rook Scholar Award for academic excellence. He is also an adjunct faculty member at Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he teaches Federal Income Taxation of Individuals and Entities in the Master’s Program. Carl lives in Bergen County and enjoys traveling and sightseeing when not serving his clients.

Heather Massari has been a trusted accountant for Roth & Spellman clients since joining the firm in October 2004. She specializes in sectors including retail, wholesale, trades, construction, technology, and medical practices.

Her expertise covers payroll, bookkeeping, financial statements, and tax preparation, and she is proficient in accounting programs like QuickBooks.

Heather lives in Bergen County, NJ with her husband and three children. She is active in her community, serving on the PTO board, coaching local sports, and volunteering at her church and food banks.

She graduated from William Paterson University with a B.S. in Accounting and a minor in Finance.

Biography

Sherill Spellman brings extensive experience, dedication, and a genuine passion for helping clients. She joined the firm in 1986 and became a partner in 1993. Her primary focus includes monthly accounting, tax preparation, and financial statement preparation. Sherill also represents individuals before federal and state taxing authorities, including the IRS Collection Division, helping clients set up payment plans when unable to pay assessments.

She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJSCPA), and is licensed to practice in New Jersey.

Sherill lives with her husband in Bergen County, NJ, but loves spending time near the water, whether at her Jersey Shore home or traveling on cruises. She is also a big fan of Disney World, having visited with her family many times. Her hobbies include photography and scrapbooking. She was involved in Scouting and the PTA when her children were younger.

Sherill graduated with honors from Ramapo College of New Jersey, earning a B.S. in Business Administration with majors in Accounting and Marketing. She was a recipient of the Katherine Liessem Memorial Scholarship, a member of the Delta Mu Delta National Honor Society in Business Administration, and a regular on the Dean’s List.

Melissa Gracey started working at Roth & Spellman in 1996 while attending Montclair State University. After graduating, she briefly joined Price Waterhouse, a former “Big Eight” accounting firm, but returned to Roth & Spellman, preferring the close client relationships a small firm offers.

Melissa specializes in monthly accounting services, tax preparation, and auditing. She lives in Bergen County, NJ with her husband and four children. Outside of work, she is active in her community, volunteering for the PTA and her daughter’s Girl Scouts troop, and teaching religious education at her church.

She graduated cum laude from Montclair State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, concentrating in Accounting.
